Episode 14

Lupin III, vol. 8: Secret of the Emerald

Secret of the Emerald pits Lupin against a tricky woman who is very rich. The woman, Kathleen, is going to get married on her yacht, and she has allowed Zenigata and Lupin to come aboard to act as entertainment for everyone else. Lupin is disguised as a professor who knows Kathleen, and Fujiko is posing as Kathleen's maid. Fujiko succeeds in stealing the priceless emerald that Kathleen has been wearing on her dress. But, the gem is a fake. The rest of the episode just has Lupin running around the yacht as Kathleen gives false clues concerning the gem's location. Finally, Lupin notices that Kathleen's Siamese cat is a little weird -- it has one false eye, and the real emerald is hidden in the cat's empty eye socket.

Lupin and Fujiko steal the emerald (and put an eye patch over the socket), and escape the yacht by riding away on a prop-driven kite plane.

Lupin III, vol. 9: Capture Lupin to go to Europe

I once had a different version of this volume, before I came to Japan.

Zenigata has been picked to attend a Policeman's Conference being held in Europe. However, Zenigata refuses to leave Japan until Lupin is placed behind bars. Meanwhile, Lupin is trying to steal a solid gold bust of a millionaire named Mr. Gold. Since Zenigata keeps getting in the way, Lupin allows himself to be arrested. And thus, Zenigata receives a hero's send-off at the airport. The problem is, Lupin had already visited the jail the day before, and he'd planted a lock pick toolkit near his jail cell. Zenigata sees Lupin waving at him at the airport, but he can't get off the plane before it takes off. Lupin and gang disguise themselves as security people, and carry the statue out through the front door of Gold's mansion.

Episode 16

Lupin III, vol. 9: Intercept those Jewels!

I don't have this volume.

Late one night, Lupin and Jigen are at a cabin at a beach, watching some criminals smuggling in a bunch of precious gems via boat. Jigen wants to jump the smugglers, but Lupin points out all of the guards in the area. Later, Fujiko drives up, and she wants to get in on the act.

A few days later, at the jewel shop owned by the smugglers, all of their illegal gems are in display cases, out for sale. Fujiko arrives and acts like a customer, while Lupin and Jigen come in dressed as two incompetent cleaning men. The smugglers get glued to the floor, and Lupin uses a giant vacuum pump to suck the gems up and into a gasoline truck parked outside. A crowd forms outside the store, and someone calls the police.

The episode then turns into a ground and air escape act as Fujiko steals the jewels from Lupin, the mob tries to steal them from Fujiko, and Lupin steals them back. Ultimately, the three heroes are trapped in a cabin at the top of a hill, and the mob prepares to blow them up. Zenigata and the police arrive to arrest the smugglers, while Lupin has run a cable through the cabin and connected it to the nearest hill. The cabin collapses, leaving just the floor, connected to the cable. Unfortunately, the briefcases are lying loose on the floor, and they slide off, and all of the jewels fall down on top of the happy policemen.

Zenigata tries to intercept the cabin on the far hill, but the anchor pulls loose, and he grabs it long enough to let Lupin and friends climb over him to safety. Zenigata gets pulled off the hill by the cable, and it wraps him up. Lupin, Jigen, and Fujiko fly away on a make-shift hang glider. Lupin discovers one last diamond caught in Fujiko's hair. He laughs, throwing the gem away over his shoulder.

Lupin steals the money, and then discovers that Fujiko was in cahoots with their kidnapper all along. But, the two women's victory is shortlived -- the money is fake, and Lupin has put a timebomb under the kidnapper's car.

Episode 18

Lupin III, vol. 10: Pay Attention to the Beauty Contest

I don't have this volume.

Lupin and Jigen are at the airport, watching many beautiful women disembarking from one plane. Lupin notices that the man in charge of them -- the organizer of the Miss Global Beauty Contest, is a famous thief. And, from the next plane over, disembarks some of the wealthiest art collectors in the world. Lupin decides to follow everyone to their hotel. He then disguises himself as a TV news reporter, and Jigen and Fujiko as camera operators.

During the beauty contest, as each girl steps out on stage, the art collectors are sitting in seperate box seats, watching. The contest organizer is showing each collector a pamphelet describing each girl. However, inside the pamphelet is a photo of each art piece that the organizer is offering up for auction (including one Piccaso, and the Mona Lisa). In the middle of the contest, Goemon parachutes onto the stage, and he leaps all over the place, causing damage, slicing stuff up, and being pursued by the police. Goemon escapes, and contest is postponed.

Lupin views the camera footage that they'd recorded, and he watches one guy shove one of the pamphelets down his throat. Goemon had grabbed another pamphelet, and the gang finally learns the secret of the contest. The next day, the contest is moved out to a nearby island, which is owned by the organizer. One oceanliner has the organizer and art collectors, the other has the girls and the press. The police aren't allowed onto the island, so Zenigata has to sit and fume. Lupin and Jigen are still members of the press, and Goemon smuggles himself in dressed as a security guard.

The collectors' luggage is brought into one room in the island's log cabin. The organizer opens up the bidding for his artwork, and all of the collectors start pulling out piles of money. Zenigata discovers that Lupin is on the island, and he raids the place with his men. However, instead of finding Lupin, he discovers the collectors and LOTS of money. Further, inside the luggage are all of the beauty contestants -- bound and gagged. Zenigata arrests the collectors on charges of kidnapping. Outside, everyone discovers Lupin and crew, standing on a sailboat. The sail is made up of all of the precious artwork canvases sewn together. The gang escapes as Zenigata screams from one of the docks.

Finally, Lupin reacts, releasing many Lupin III robots on an art museum. He also releases many psychiatrist robots, which causes Zenigata to round up not only the robots, but the head shrinker as well. So, while the police are busy with the distractions, Lupin steals all the valuables and drives off into the night.

Lupin III, vol. ???: The Predictive Computer's Tactics!

This is the episode that wasn't included in the color manga collection.

Episode 23

Lupin III, vol. 12: The Big Golden Showdown

I don't have this volume.

Time has passed, and the gang has gone into retirement, until Lupin decides to pull one last caper. He targets a huge shipment of old Oriental gold coins. Zenigata is threatening to resign from the Department, but the Chief keeps him on for this assignment. And, while Lupin succeeds in outsmarting the police, by tunneling under the bank vault and stealing the gold, many of the coins are fakes -- with signal transmitters inside. Lupin discovers this, and puts the coins in several garbage trucks to confuse Zenigata. But, the police catch on quickly, and Lupin is located in the city dump. There, he supposedly blows himself up with the rest of his gang. Zenigata is crushed, until he goes out into the nearby bay, where Lupin and crew had launched themselves via their cannon.

This is definitely one of the weaker shows, and is notable only because it was the last episode of the first season.
