Masayuki Ishikawa. Born July 29, 1974, in Osaka.
Applied to the College of Arts, but was rejected. While working part-time at a transportation company, he became interested in manga magazines, and between age 18 and 19, he started submitting to Weekly Young Magazine. In 1997, he debuted with "Japanese Government Maneuver Sqaudron Coumin V" (日本政府直轄機動戦隊コームインV). In 1999, his "God's Animal Mountain" (神の棲む山), (included in "Hitokiri Ryuuma") won the Chiba Tetsuya Award. In 2004, he began "Moyashimon" in Kodansha's Weekly Evening magazine, which then brought him a level of fame.
His works include the "Weekly Masayuki Ishikawa" manga, which ran in Morning magazine, featuring "WILD BOYS BLUES", which was turned into a TV drama under the name "Killer Joe". Similarly, "Kanojo no Kokuhaku" (Woman's Confession") was turned into a short film. Moyashimon was released as an 11-episode TV anime series, and in 2008 it won the 12th Annual Tezuka Award for Manga, and the 32nd Kodansha Award in the General Category. It also ran as a live-action TV drama during the summer of 2010.
He is known for drawing fine detail in a very thin line, something that he seems to do unconsciously. He doesn't use assistants.
He is friends with Tomoko Ninomiya (creator of "Nodame Cantabile") and Makoto Yukimura ("Planetes" and "Vinland Saga").
