Tokiwa Manor Playback

"Tokiwa-Sou Playback" ("Tokiwa-Sou Monogatari" in the Japanese subtitle) is a 490+ page tribute to the building where Tezuka lived and worked from 1953 to 1954, and 13 of the people that either also lived there or visited a lot. The Tokiwa Manor apartment building was just west of Ikebukuro station. It was torn down in the 80's, but for 2 years shrtly after it was built in 1952, Tezuka used it as his studio, and some of the artists continued living there afterward. Essentially, Tokiwa was a 2-story building sectioned off into small rooms with a common kitchen and shared toilet. It was in with a number of similar buildings in kind of an artist's enclave.
