Chapter 1

A young girl is running through her high school, wearing a short-skirted uniform and carrying a small camcorder in her right hand. She’s looking for a friend that she expects to be just lolling about. A tennis shoe falls from the roof of one building, accompanied by the sounds of fighting. Looking up, she sadly guesses that one of the fighters in "Gan-chan". On the roof, Houichi, a 1^st year student, is bouncing around, asking his battered "senpai-tachi" what’s wrong. (3 bigger students are lying on the ground). One of the guys asks why the boy hasn’t entered either a karate or kendo club. Houichi replies that he can’t do something like that because of his science-loving grandfather. The other guy points out the floating commercial billboard in the background, and comments that Houichi’s grandfather is the weird guy that wrote the silly book about the aliens that had provided the technology for the CFO (floating commercials). Houichi kicks him in the ribs.

The girl, Akane, interrupts the beating to state that the guy isn’t all wrong, and that as a reporter she’d like to interview the old man herself. He asks why she’s not watching the "10^th Year Anniversary of the First Contact." The big event is scheduled for today – the opening of the Elevator Base Station (shortened to the Ele-base in Japanese. I’m calling it the E-base.) It’s a super high-tech tower 37,000 km tall that connects Earth’s surface (at Hawaii) with an anchored space platform. Houichi claims no interest in the aliens, but pauses when told that a pretty new girl has decided to enroll in their class today.

In the classroom, an alien from Riofald – Kinbar Sensei – is introducing the new student. She is a very attractive girl with big breasts, named Isaka Minagata. Kinbar is surprised to learn that Isaka has come to Howa H.S. just to meet the troublemaking Houichi Kanou. The rest of the boys in the class are jealous of Houichi, the girls are jealous of Isaka. They all think that the two are lovers.

Houichi doesn’t want to watch the high tech event of the E-base opening, and Akane still presses on to interview his grandfather. But the boy hasn’t seen him since he went to a southern resort 10 years earlier. He has read the book, which Akane brought with her – The Aliens Are Invaders. She’d like to ask about the old man’s source of money, and the various high-tech patents that he holds. Then her wrist watch alarm goes off. They walk to the video room to watch the E-base grand opening on TV.

Kinbar’s entire class is watching the TV. The announcer describes the elevator, and states that the expensive project was a joint effort with the space travellers – the Faldians – started a few years ago. The base is about 200 meters by 500 meters, and 200 meters tall. It’s intended to increase the amount of space travel and commerce between Earth and the Faldians. Houichi’s grandfather, Housuke, is also watching the show, and he asks if Houichi has been contacted yet. The boy is needed for something that only he can do. It’d be a shame if the boy died before his chance had come along.

Akane is impressed, but Houichi isn’t. He dislikes the new technologies, but the girl points out his watch and the video deck equipment that uses it. He remains unconvinced, implying that Kinbar is also an inventor, adding to the competition. In the classroom, Minagata asks to go to the toilet, and a classmate volunteers to show the new girl the way. But, when the classmate turns her back, Minagata disappears. And, 10 years after the First Contact, it is now time to cut the ribbon to the E-base. This is the culmination of all of the technology brought to Earth by the aliens. The world waits, watching. Then, there’s a knock at the editing room door. Akane opens it, only to bury her face in Isaka’s huge breasts. Minagata introduces herself, adding that she has something to give to Houichi. The boy is very pleased at this, and at being asked to go somewhere private together. They leave, and Akane takes a moment to get over her shock. When she does, she angrily prepares to tape them while they are fooling around. But, she quickly settles down, sadly convinced that the problem is that her own breasts are so small.

An emergency newscast comes on. 5 minutes earlier, a fleet of space ships attacked the U.S. Pentagon, destroying it. More news will be released when it’s available. On the roof again, Houichi wonders about this glove that Minagata gave him. It has a time piece embedded in it, and the word "Cannon" on the back. He was hoping for something more "organic". Isaka asks if he hates it; he doesn’t, but is more intent on getting a kiss from her. She replies, "Ah, you’re here." Behind the boy is a hologram of his grandfather. The old man is pleased with his grandson’s appearance. He adds that the show is beginning, and asks Isaka to create a projection screen for them. The screen floats in mid-air, showing several U.S. battleships capsizing in the ocean, having been cut in two: The Grand Canyon, the Manhattan, the Enterprise, the "Hawaii Desubaree", and the Texas have all joined the destruction of the Pentagon. Several jet fighters chase a UFO – it deflects their fire, spins 180 degrees, and blows the jets up.

Houichi asks what’s going on, and is told that this show of force is part of the opening stage of an invasion from the Faldians. A couple of helicopter gunships fire on a hovering mother craft, and are quickly destroyed. Near the E-base, an American official is on his cell phone, asking what kind of joke this is. An aide holding a portable flatscreen TV catches the official’s eye with an incoming broadcast that is airing on every channel on the planet. It’s a speech from the Faldian Ambassador-in-Chief. The alien is standing at the E-base, its huge bay doors open behind him. The sound of heavy thudding footsteps approaches him. The Ambassador says that doubtless everyone has seen the defeat of the Americans. As of this moment, the space above Earth belongs to Riofald, which makes this planet the 7^th to be added to their string of conquests.

Then, a giant robot appears from the shadows of the elevator lift. The audience around the base is stunned, and a reporter describes the 100 meter-tall ‘bot in front of them. Various camera people move in to get the shot, while someone states that this looks like something out of a manga. The leader continues; any attempt by the Humans to fight back will be met with deadly force. There is no place to run or hide. Within the hour, surveillance robots will fill the cities, and the news media will be controlled by the aliens. Everyone currently in this port in Hawaii has just become their hostages. He directs their attention to the nearby battleship, as the robot picks him up and carries him up to eye level. The robot’s other eye glows, and a beam lances out to destroy the ship (and then skips across the water several times.) Akane, Houichi and Kinbar are stunned. The official and the media just stand there as water pours down on them. The Ambassador concludes that any country that sends a ship to the E-base will meet the same fate. The Faldians have spoken.

Houichi is pleased that his grandfather’s predictions had been correct. It’s time for them to act now. The boy asks what his grandfather has in store. In the classroom, some of the students eye Kinbar, and ask if she’s just become one of the enemy. Kinbar nervously states that she has to step out of the room for a moment, and that they should continue with their self-study. She bolts down the hall.

Houichi wants to know what his grandfather is going to do next. The old man corrects him. Houichi is the one to do all of the work. (Isaka cheers him on.) In fact, the boy’s first task has just arrived. Above them, a flier approaches, carrying a Black Ball robot. The flier passes over the building, and the old man says that it’s one of the protection ‘bots that the leader had mentioned. In the hallway, Kinbar is on the phone. She wants to know what’s going on, how she’s going to be affected, and who’s going to ensure her safety. The line goes dead. As she puts the phone away, another teacher approaches her.

Akane is racing to find Houichi to berate him for fooling around with the other girl at a time like this. She stops in front of the flier as it disengages the Black Ball. The Ball exudes arms and legs, and lands in front of her. It targets the action inside the school and tells Akane to get away from the area. Tanaka Sensei slams Kinbar against the wall and demands answers from her. The alien teacher claims to not know anything, and Tanaka punches her in the face. The Black Ball registers this.

Houichi looks at the glove on his left hand, asking if this is his grandfather’s secret weapon. The old man states that it can turn him into a hero. Turns out that Housuke also created Isaka for Houichi’s use. Housuke tells his grandson that the glove is configured for voice commands, and to go ahead and give it an order. The boy hesitantly says "Transform." The glove triggers, and converts Houichi’s class uniform into an extension of the glove. He tries to make it stop at his wrist, then gives up. He demands to know what the new outfit is, and is told that it’s called a "gunner suit", created to make him into a hero.

Tanaka again tells Kinbar to talk, but she claims to not know anything. Tanaka is about to hit her a second time when the Black Ball uses the blade at the end of its arm to slice a big hole in the wall. The Ball says that the penalty for attacking a Faldian is death. It cuts him in two, spraying blood all over Kinbar. The circle of wall hits the ground, and Houichi asks what the sound is. His grandfather tells him to go and start fighting.

Chapter 2

Houichi walks to the school, but his grandfather says "Houichi, full cover!" A faceplate seals off the helmet of the gunner suit in 1-1000^th of a second. Isaka explains that this is part of his protection. Houichi races off. Isaka is told to support the boy, as the old man is going to focus his attention back at his command center. Houichi is amazed at the speed of his suit, then discovers that he can’t stop in time and smashes into a parked car, demolishing it. He pulls himself out of the wreckage, not believing that he is still alive. Akane hears the crash, but decides that she’d rather be the first person to video tape a Black Ball robot. This would make a great news scoop. Akane approaches the wall, and looks at the two halves of Tanaka’s body (the upper shoulders and head land next to her.) Blood dripping from above lands on her face and she screams.

The Black Ball accuses the girl of interfering with its business and demands that she hand over the camcorder. She’s in shock and can’t respond. Kinbar tries to make the robot leave Akane alone, but it won’t accept her orders. It tells 1^st year student Akane Hino, of Class 21, to comply (getting its info from a databank somewhere). She can’t move as tears stream down her face. Nearby, other students look out the windows at the commotion, noticing the dead body on the ground. The robot orders the death sentence and swings in its blade.

Houichi arrives in time to block the blade with his face. He orders Akane to escape, and she recognizes his voice. The robot retracts its arm to repair the damaged blade edge, then exudes it again. The penalty for interfering with it is death. Houichi tells it to shut up and they fight. The robot smashes him into the ground.

This causes the boy some pain, so he asks his grandfather what weapons he has. The old man radios back that both hands are equipped with guns. Just extend one hand and give the order. Houichi reaches out with his right hand and says "Gun Set!" A 50 cal. pistol leaps out of his backpack and into his hand. One shot destroys the Black Ball, but the shockwave blows out nearby windows, and causes Akane’s glasses to crack.

Housuke explains that the gun uses a 50 cal. bullet, and a magnetic field to super accelerate the shell. Then, the students at the windows begin applauding and yelling "Cool!" Several students ask to see his face, and call him "robot killer." Houske asks how it feels to be a hero, and the boy answers "It feels great!" Housuke continues, "By the way, there’s a flier behind you." Houichi turns and only has time for one shot.

Chapter 3

The 50 cal. round disables the flier, but not before it slams into him. The flier crashes into a school building, slicing off a large corner of it. Housuke radios that the faceplate’s been damaged. If the suit is taken off, it will repair itself, but the boy has to get out of the area before anyone sees his face. He asks where Isaka is, and is told that she’s in the middle of getting information. She has exuded feelers from her right-hand fingers, and is hacking into the flier’s data. She finishes, and Houichi leaps to the roof. Akane stares unbelievingly at his back.

At the elevator base, various reporters discover that their phones don’t work. All of their batteries have died. Funny enough, they remember that the basic chips for their electronics all came from the Faldians. Two specific reporters complain about being hostages, then notice that certain shops are still in business. They also see a security ‘bot nearby. The guy calls his female partner "Hino", indicating that Akane may have an older sister or relative already working in the press. Then, they ask where the U.S. secret service guys have gotten to.

The secret service are inside the E-base, checking their weapons. Faldian lasers will be useless here, so they’re only going to use Earth-made hand guns. They’ve decided that the E-base was a kind of Trojan horse, and now they’re going to have to tackle the enemy. The E-base commander is the Ambassador-in-Chief, General Zoburozarofuka Sheska, and he is their main target. They’ll have to get through his minions to take him out – by any means necessary. He’s the link to the home planet – with him out of the way, the other alien soldiers on Earth will be without a leader.

In the E-base command center (the word "OEBIS" is on the front of Sheska’s desk), Shishia notifies the General that something has happened to Damudamu #105 (the Black Ball robot) in Tokyo. There’s little information to report, but it seems that someone had hacked into its datalines and cleaned out its memory; it’s not a case of a hard disk failure. Sheska orders Sorosaremu to target on Japan and to power up.

The gunner suit turns back into a glove, but because Houichi had interferred with it earlier, his uniform sleeve is now ragged and torn. Isaka says that she’ll fix it, and puts Houichi’s hand on her breast. His fingers slide through her flesh. As he struggles in horror to free himself, the android says that he’s tickling her and to stop moving around in her. His hand comes free and his sleeve is repaired. She replies that she’s an android that has been constructed for his use. And to not worry, because her breasts are bigger than Akane’s.

In the school shower room, Akane and Kinbar Sensei are washing off the blood. The girl has recovered from her shock. She has a spare pair of glasses in her locker, and will change into her gym clothes. She also knows that Kinbar is not involved in the invasion, and as a journalist, she can be objective about these kinds of things. Kinbar breaks down, hugs the girl, and sobs out "thank you". Akane gets embarrassed and asks her to stop this.

Houichi asks where his grandfather went. Isaka replies that what they had seen earlier was a hologram – the real Housuke is in his control room. They return to the classroom, where the other students ask if the boy had seen the TV (someone else asks if Isaka is his girlfriend. Isaka is pleased with this, but Houichi just says "Jeez".) Seems that the giant robot is going to attack Japan from Hawaii. At the E-base, Sorosaremu’s inertial system is locking in place. The reporters wonder if it will use its beam again. Then it prepares to shoot from a cannon in its chest.

Akane tells Kinbar that she knows who was in the black suit, and asks what she should do. Because of the danger, Kinbar tells her to not say anything to anyone. The suit operator has violated Faldian law, and their soldiers will be out looking to kill him. Akane looks worried.

The cannon goes off; the blast is so strong that it blows reporters off the neighboring buildings, and damages the structure. Housuke is told about the attack by his androids, and that impact with Japan will be in 15 minutes. That, and Exaxxion has just passed its final checks. He announces that the Exaxxion Project can now go to stage 2. He tells Houichi to wait, because he’s now going to turn into a TRUE hero.

Chapter 4

Around the world, people watch the reporters at the E-base get thrown around by the shockwave. In Tokyo, a reporter announces that a particular apartment building in is the path of the attack. Hopefully, everyone will be able to get clear of the skyscraper in time. Housuke complains that people have gotten lazy with the long period of peace. Houichi and Isaka are back on the roof, and the boy yells into the glove for his grandfather. The old man’s projection appears. The boy talks about the attack on Japan, and asks how he can become a hero this time. However, there’s nothing for him to do now. The projectile is aimed at Mt. Fuji, and Housuke wants it to succeed to knock people from their slumber.

Sheska eagerly awaits the "event". He doesn’t care about the people in the building in the projectile’s path. Then, he learns that invaders have gotten into the E-base and are making their way to the command room. Security has gone from level yellow to red. The secret service group has obtained a section of a robot, and they use it to override the doors outside the command room. Sheska orders that the manual locks be activated. Shishia springs into action, hitting one lock. But, the door opens before she can reach the second lever. She activates a force field located in her collar. One of the agents shoots, nailing Shishia in the arm and upper body. Sheska activates his field, and the bullets that get past Shishia simply slow down and drop to the floor. A Black Ball robot kills the invaders. One agent manages to fire once more, but the bullet nears Sheska’s face, slows down, and falls to the floor.

Fiottsu yells, asking if Sheska is ok. He replies that the field generator that is issued to VIPs has saved him. She then yells at her fallen friend. The floor manager yells for a stretcher to be brought up. Shishia asks where the commander is, and why everything has gone black. The projectile will hit Mt. Fuji in 2 minutes, and Sheska orders Fiottsu back into her seat. The woman hesitantly consents. Sheska then tells the Black Balls to secure the building and to deal with the wounded. Shishia thinks that Sheska is ok, then she goes limp, seeing a light in front of her.

Houichi argues with his grandfather to do something. Isaka notices someone approaching, and the old man flickers out. Akane and Kimiko Marui reach the roof to capture Mt. Fuji on tape. They’re surprised to see Houichi there. Akane whispers that she has a lot to talk to the boy about. He asks about Fuji. The mountain is off in the distance, not visible, but the girls are hoping to catch something on tape for the media, anyway. Akane counts down from 5 seconds. They see a streak, then the mountain goes up in a flash. Isaka tells them that the shockwave from the impact will arrive in three seconds. The blast takes out buildings and bridges in faraway Tokyo, and blows the rooftop observers to the ground. Akane and Kimiko are both unconscious, but in fair condition. Isaka explains to Houichi that Sorosaremu hadn’t used a missile – it was a hyper-accelerated 1143 mm shell fired from a rail gun. It didn’t need a warhead – the shell turned into plasma from the impact.

Houichi asks what he can do in this situation – the suit would be useless here. Isaka assures him that he can do anything; he only has to ride her.

Chapter 5

Houichi starts thinking dirty thoughts, but Isaka is in the process of turning into an air bike. When she’s completed, he complains about the silly shape. She protests that she’s capable of going 152 kpm, so hurry up and get on. He asks "Where to?" They have to move before the police arrive to investigate the previous "incident", so hurry up, put on the suit, and get on. He yells for his grandfather, asking how this is going to make him a hero. He wants to know what to do if there’s another attack, but the old man says that there won’t be another for a while. The current one had been just for show. "Trust me."

Back at the E-base, Hino and her camera man are taping the dead. 30 bodies so far, just from the blast from the robot. There’s not much else they can do but cover the story. They look down at an ID on one of the body bags – Bob Chan, age 9. Then, the PA system comes on to tell the survivors that the phone lines are working again. The cameraman wants to call the news office, but Hino asks to use her personal wireless first. Akane wakes up to the sound of her phone (Houichi’s coat is on top of her.) She slips away to accept the call.

Isaka directs Houichi on how to control the air bike – it’s almost exactly like a regular motorcycle. To start with, though, Isaka will take the lead right now. She blasts into the sky. Akane watches them leave, afraid that her Gan-chan is planning on entering the war. A sensor records the air bike and notifies the E-base command center. They recognize the black-suited guy, and Sheska orders him arrested, taken in alive or dead.

Houichi loves the bike, as they get above the clouds. Isaka warns him of an attack above and to the left. Two laser beams zip in and are deflected. The boy likes the defenses against lasers, and is told to use the gun, because Isaka doesn’t have any weapons. He activates the 50 cal. and takes out the UFO jet. As he cheers, a helicopter comes up behind him (air force) and opens up with a minigun. The pilot notifies the command center that he has engaged the enemy. Isaka repeats this, and berates Houichi for not acting more like a hero. He wasn’t expecting being a hero to be this difficult, and gets almost blown off the bike.

The androids tell Housuke that his grandson is about to be shot down, and he just says that with the suit and Minagata, the boy will be fine. The girls are still worried – how many 10 milli rounds can the boy take? – so the old man orders Tanegashima to report. She says that the systems report green, and they can start any time. He has his androids line up, says that this is what they’ve been working towards for these 40 (?) years, and even with the tight schedule, if they all pull together, they can succeed to protect Houichi. They’re going to bring Exaxxion up from the lift to shift the enemy’s attention away from the boy. He orders the hatch to be opened, and the girls cheer. And, next to a freeway, in the middle of Japan, a hill splits down the middle and the two halves start sliding apart.

Chapter 6

Two trucks of reporters are rushing to the aerial fight scene, with the lead truck afraid that the one behind them will get there first. However, they are hit by part of the hill and both of the vehicles are knocked into the valley. The androids stare up into the sky, and Tanegashima tells Housuke that the hatch is opening. A power line strung across the hill snaps under the strain. The lift starts, Exaxxion’s generator is activated, and they have ignition.

Suddenly, alarms go off in the E-base control center. "XXX Alert" flashes on the screen, and virtually no one has ever seen anything like this before. The alert’s been programmed into the operating system and can’t be deactivated. Sheska has heard something about XXX, remembers what it is and yells out that it’s probably a human hacking into their systems. He orders Fiottsu to contact the home planet to say that the alert is just because of hackers.

The helicopter fires a missile at Houichi, and blows him clear of the bike. The pilot loses him in the clouds. Houichi yells at Isaka to do something. She’s trying to recover, way above him, and can only yell out his name. One of the other androids says that Exaxxion’s "lift up" is complete. Exaxxion towers over the surrounding countryside. Under the hill, we can see an elaborate hanger system, and the words "eXaXXion Project" on the floor of the lift.

Sheska sees this too, and flops weakly into his chair. Fiottsu says that Earth seems to have its own giant robot. The General laughs hysterically, then orders Sorosaremu to fire a second time – this time towards this robot.

Houichi bounces off a walkway and lands on Isaka, just inches above the ground. She’s glad she got to him in time. Around them, is the wreckage caused by Sorosaremu’s projectile. Blown out windows, corpses in cars, destroyed storefronts, and lots of wounded everywhere. Houichi can’t believe that this destruction could have happened 57km away from Fuji. One woman is trying to save her injured husband, and their child runs to the "black suit guy" to ask him to take her father to the hospital on his bike. She pleads to him to not let her father die. Houichi asks what to do, and Isaka tells him that there’s something they can try.

A teacher discovers Akane and Kimiko, and forces them into the school’s auditorium. They apologize and go inside. The principle tells the students that they are under martial law. The three Faldian teachers are standing on stage, looking hurt. The students are going to be held in the school under police surveillance. They protest against such fascist tactics, and ask what about the dead Tanaka Sensei. The principle warns them that their noise may attract more Black Balls, and they don’t care. One Faldian teacher comments on the "squawking monkeys", and Kinbar covers her ears in embarrassment.

The father gets healed, and people gather around. Houichi asks how the glove can do this, and Minagata answers that the micromachines in the glove are under her control, and can therefore be given healing powers. Some guy with a broken arm comes up demanding to be healed. Others clamor as well – a little girl is in shock; a woman is trapped under some rubble; a woman has a bashed-up leg. Minagata runs out of spare nano-tech material, but the crisis is over and everyone thanks them. Then, the android warns the boy of incoming. 6 fliers drop their Black Balls, announcing that the troublemaker must be arrested, killed if trying to resist.

Sheska is told that all systems are go. He shouts to the operating room people to reduce the enemy ‘bot’s head to jelly. Sorosaremu fires.

Chapter 7

In a conference room (probably the Japan Prime Minister’s office) the leader is sweating quietly while everyone else is shouting. The robot has fired again. Someone wants to contact Sheska, but there’s nothing that can be done now. The blast is headed for Japan again, and there’s nowhere to run to in the 20 minutes they have left. Someone else suggests that they get into a bomb shelter.

The Black Balls shoot down, and Minagata says that they were a little slow in getting away. People watch in fear as the blade arms entrap their hero. The android says that things are bad – the E-base robot has just fired again. The boy yells that things are bad here at the bike, too. The android continues, saying that the target is Exaxxion – a giant robot that Housuke had built. The boy wants to know why his old man doesn’t do something himself. The answer is that the ‘bot is designed only to be used by Houichi. And Houichi has to get into the ‘bot if it is to stop this new blast. She wants Houichi to give his orders, but he can’t move a finger. So Isaka decides to see what she can do – they blow straight upwards, easily getting free of the arms, because the bike’s body has become more streamlined.

Houichi curses at having to take out the fliers. All six need to be destroyed in under three minutes so that they can get to the robot in time. He uses the 50 cal. At the school, Akane worries that this new blast is because of Houichi. Even with his SF-looking clothes, there’s no way he can take on every Faldian on Earth. The principle shouts at the mulling students to sit down and listen to the rest of the announcement. Kinbar just looks resigned.

An airplane approaching Haneda airport is preparing for its descent when the projectile rips through it. The plane explodes. An operator relays this info to Sheska. The floor manager asks if it’s ok to use Sorosaremu without permission first. Sheska asks if his decision is being questioned, and the guy waffles. The General states that this is not something for the floor manager to worry about – just concentrate on his own duties. Then, Fiottsu announces that there’s an incoming message from the home planet. Sheska twitches.

Houichi finishes off the last flier, stranding the Black Balls on the ground. The boy asks where Exaxxion is, then flies off at 2’o-clock. The androids tell Housuke that Houichi is on his way. The old man wants Isaka to hurry since there’s so little time left. Exaxxion is huge. Houichi worries that they are not landing in front of the robot, and instead they slam into the Gunner Room through the hole in the back of the robot’s head. Minagata has transformed into the chair that the boy is sitting on. He yells for her, and she reverts to human form – naked. She tells him that he only has 3 minutes to learn to use the giant robot. First, there’s a big pedal under his right foot; the harder he presses on it, the faster they walk.

The boy shouts for his grandfather. The old man answers, squeezing the breast of one of the androids. Her neighbor is jealous and wants her breasts squeezed too. The old man asks if the ‘bot is moving ok. Houichi answers that it’s moving great, but now what? Housuke has no idea – this is his grandson’s game. Just move out quickly before the militia arrive. Houichi wants to know "where to,’ and is told to head to Fuji. The militia are on the road, targeting the robot until they get stepped on and squished. Houichi wants to go faster, but Isaka tells him that although it feels slow, they’re really going 200 kpm. In the meantime, he wants to know what weapons to use. The buttons on the joystick grip? Nope, they are just going to stand and take the blow with their body. He asks if it’s with their body or their head. Isaka doesn’t know how to answer. The blast is coming in from 10‘o-clock. Isaka braces her charge against the impact. And Exaxxion takes it right to the head.

Chapter 8

The shockwave rattles the city, but this time it’s not so bad. Akane can’t learn anything from her news computer. The androids report that the robot is ok, but there’s no data from Houichi. Then, they learn that his heart has stopped. Sheska wants to know if it was a hit. The video comes up on the big screen. He’s stunned to see that Exaxxion is still standing, and asks if this is really the product of human technology. Fiottsu interrupts his rant – a call has come in from Bantoran Shogun on Sheska’s private line.

Isaka is told to jumpstart Houichi’s heart, and she zaps him. The boy is having a flashback to 5 years ago. Two bullies are accosting him, bragging about an expensive Faldian watch that one of them owns. Houichi calls them pawns of the invaders, and they attack him. Later, Akane asks if his face hurts and if he should go to the hospital. He’s been bashed up, but he won, so it’s no big deal. Either way, she is still worried about him. Then, they see a floating billboard. It’s her first time, but the boy hates the things. He asks what if his grandfather’s book is right? She asks what he’d like to do next. He answers "sex", and Akane blushes. She says that if he wants to do something etchi, it’s ok by her.

Houichi comes to, saying that he’d like to have sex. His grandfather asks what he is talking about. Isaka states that she can give him something for 5 minutes, if he’d like. The old man tells her to shut up. Most of the blast had been absorbed by the robot, with only 1% getting through.

Sheska deflects Bantoran’s questions, saying that the XXX alert was just a false alarm. Bantoran is not fully convinced, but he breaks contact. Sheska does a search on XXX, and wonders why he’d never seen one on the home planet. It’s old technology, but still, if the humans have gotten their hands on it…

Houichi wants to see outside, so the guard visor is raised. He’s surrounded by tanks and battle choppers. He starts to panic. The ground troops had been on the road for 34 minutes, triggered by the XXX alert. They’ve reached the lift platform. Housuke wants the doors sealed, and the explosives in elevator four triggered. He’s pissed because he’s just messed up his nice logo.

Houichi yells at the old man for instructions. He’s told that if he brings up his left arm, he can use a weapon. He targets one of the choppers harassing him. There’s a camera in the arm, and he can aim using his display monitor. He doesn’t want to kill anyone, so the old man tells him to aim at the engine. The chopper will descend safely under auto-rotation. He doesn’t know what that means, so he’s told to just shoot, everything will be fine. The three 6-barrel 88mm gattling guns are activated. They fire and cut the chopper in two. Houichi jerks the joystick, and the guns wipe out a tank. The Faldian army pulls back and opens fire on the robot’s knees.

Houichi is in shock and demands to know what just happened. "You shot them", comes the reply. "They’re dead! I didn’t want to kill them!" The old man calmly states that there’s not much choice during a war. The boy wants a smaller weapon. "In the right arm is a 460 mm cannon". "This is not how I want to become a hero!" "No, for that you need this controller." A panel lifts up in the middle of the console. It’s a pistol grip, labeled "4096 Cannon". The boy asks what it is, and is told that it’s Exaxxion’s big prize. The Exaxxion Cannon – a 4.096 meter gun.

Housuke tells him to use the 4096 on the elevator base to take out the other ‘bot. They argue over the possible casualties the blast will cause, but hey – this is war. The muzzle blast will also damage the soldiers around Exaxxion, but that’s no big loss. The old man tells the boy to take the trigger and become a hero by blowing away Sorosaremu. Houichi hates the idea of killing anyone, but his shaking hand grips the 4096 control.
